About PNG to JPEG conversion
PNG uses lossless compression, which keeps every pixel perfect but produces large files. JPEG uses lossy compression that discards invisible detail, resulting in files that are often 5–10× smaller. For photographs and images without text or sharp edges, JPEG is the better choice.
When to convert PNG to JPEG
You have a PNG screenshot or photo and need to upload it somewhere that requires JPEG, or you simply want a smaller file. PNG is great for graphics with text and sharp edges, but for photographic content it produces files much larger than necessary.
This tool converts your PNG to JPEG at the quality level you choose. A quality of 85 is a good default — visually identical to the original for most photos, but a fraction of the file size. Lower the slider if you need an even smaller file.
If your PNG has a transparent background, it will be replaced with white in the JPEG output. JPEG does not support transparency — that is the one trade-off of this conversion.
Frequently asked questions
- What happens to transparent areas in my PNG?
- JPEG does not support transparency. Any transparent areas in your PNG will be filled with a white background in the converted JPEG.
- Will the image quality be the same?
- JPEG is a lossy format, so some detail is discarded during conversion. At quality 85 or above, the difference is not visible to the human eye for photographs. Graphics with sharp text may show slight artifacts.
- How much smaller will my file be?
- It depends on the image content. Photos typically shrink by 60–90%. Screenshots with large areas of flat color may see less reduction. The result page shows the exact before/after sizes.
- Can I convert multiple PNGs at once?
- Currently one file at a time. Upload your PNG, convert it, download the JPEG, then start again for the next file.
- Is my file stored on your servers?
- Files are kept only long enough for you to download the result. Everything is automatically deleted within 24 hours. We do not store, share, or analyze your images.
